General Mills kick off their annual "Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest"

Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest

Could this be the year You Win $50,000?

General Mills has kicked off their "Annual Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest," according to the recent article in FSR Magazine.  Independent family or "neighborhood" restaurants have a chance to win a $50,000 grand prize.  This is the 3rd annual Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest from General Mills Foodservice.  Celebrity Chef Amanda Freitag of Food Networks's "Chopped" will once again judge and host the recipe contest.  Our local independent restaurants have an opportunity to get national recognition for their one-of-a-kind dishes.

General Mills Foodservice supplies our local restaurants with high quality products to help make signature dishes and familiar favorites our customer's love.  They created the contest to this distinct segment that doesn't often get a lot of recognition.  The contest is open to foodservice operators, chefs and line cooks who develop and prepare recipes for menu items served by independent, commercial restaurants.

To participate in the contest, entrants need to submit an original recipe using at least one ingredient from General Mills' lists of eligible products.  Three winners will be named.  Each for on category (breakfast, entree or dessert), along with three honorable mentions.  Grand Prize is $40,000 in cash, a $10,000 donation for a local charity of their choice and Freitag will make a personal visit to their restaurant.  The three winners will also travel to General Mills’ headquarters in Minneapolis in June to meet with Freitag for a day of celebration, inspiration and the official Grand Prize winner announcement.

From January 5 to February 28th, foodservice operators, chef, and line cooks who develop or prepare recipes for menu items served to paying guests at independent, commercial restaurants may submit their favorite original recipe.  You can find the official rules available online at

Recipes will be judged on taste, appearance, creativity and foodservice viability.  Finalists will be announced in May, including three recipe winners who will travel to General Mills' headquarters in June for the official Grand Prize winner announcement.  Please let Waugh Foods know if you intend to participate in the competition.  Good Luck!
